It's in the mail.

The dreamer that I am means that everyday, just before I click on my Inbox or lift the lid on our postbox, I fantasise for a moment that inside will lie a message from someone, anyone, who recognises my immense creative talent (!) and wants to publish my work, any of it. Well today I received my copy of Guardian Monthly - the global magazine from the Guardian and the Observor –and eureka! They have published a photograph which I entered in their regular ‘Images of…’ competition. The theme was nature andthe photo has appeared on this blog before. I didn’t win the competition - some bloke who takes photos of sunrises in Bermuda did - but I was quoted as saying, “It’s the view from my back garden in Oslo, Norway”. I’m pretty pleased with myself, trying to quiet the inner voice which tells me that the editors probably only received three photo entries. I'm totally ignoring the rejection slip for a short story I submitted several months ago to an Irish newspaper and the Norwegian tax return forms which also arrived in the mail this morning. One out of three pieces of good news ain’t bad. For a dreamer.
