Resilient Oslo bucks the global trend for crisis

One of the questions almost everyone asked us during our two-week stay in Ireland was, 'How are things in Norway?'. They weren't meaning how are things with us, but how is the country fairing financially as Ireland, if the media is to be believed, sinks further and further into an economic gloom with unemployment creeping upwards and people's spirits and equity in the opposite direction.
According to an article in last Sunday's Observer, 'The global recession has hit almost every country hard. But Norway is faring better than most'. Click here to read the rest of the piece.

Yea, quite lucky we are - with the oil and stuff - and we are quite cute too (don't you think? )

Happy Weekend :-)

I heard the economy was improving, although that's what the media says in the U.S. You never know whether the media controls the moods and spending habits of people, or they report the news.

Yes, the good economic picture here in Norway helps to reassure me that we made a good decision to leave the U.S. (especially poor ol' California). I hope things continue to glow here, although I am worried about the election next month. If FrP gets into power, will they dismantle everything that helped keep Norway's economy solid? (I will enjoy driving faster along their new highways, though...)

BB - thanks. It's funny but every time I come back to Norway from Ireland I like it more and more. Dangerous for a supposed Nomad...
Renny - well apparently Norwegian women are very cute. Can't say I've noticed ;)
Michele - sounds like the Norwegian has come a long way as you must be reading the papers ;)
IM - Certainly feels like we're in the right place at the moment.
